GUYS I’m so excited for this new recipe! Honestly this recipe is amazing. We’ve been holding onto it for awhile, waiting for the perfect moment to post! Since school has started, everything has been crazy busy with recruiting, group projects, events and club meetings. So I’m taking a break right now to write up this post. Being a part-time blogger can be difficult especially since this I’m still in school but its been such a integral part of my life I will always find time for.
So what on earth is a tuile? Tuiles are thin, wafer-like cookies, laced with butter. Often made with almonds or nuts it is like a crispy version of shortbread cookies. The French really have invented something quite remarkable. Beware this is really addictive stuff, seriously! Before you know it you probably already downed 10-12 pieces.
This particular recipe is our upscale version of “ice cream sandwiches”. One disclaimer though – we didn’t use butter for this recipe (gasp!). I know it sounds blasphemous because I mean how can a Tuile NOT have butter right? Our unconventional twist to this traditional recipe has no butter! Instead, we used whole sesame seeds to add a beautiful creamy, nutty richness. We made 44 mini Tuiles out of this recipe with only 4 tbsp of flour!
We created this recipe because I literally was on a time crunch to make dessert in 60 minutes after work one day this summer. Zoe was at a doctor’s appointment, so I decided to fly solo this time. Limited to only the things we had in the kitchen, I realized that it was probably best to go for something simple that would feed a lot of people. These tuiles were definitely the best miracle that day! Our guests had so much fun scooping black sesame ice cream onto these cookies. I mean I’ve never heard of black sesame ice cream sandwich let only a DAIRY FREE, GLUTEN FREE, BUTTER FREE, PALEO Sesame Tuile Black sesame ice-cream sandwiches?
Definitely give this Japanese-French Fusion Dessert a try! Healthy, creamy and seriously addictive!
